The lower Arkansas Valley of Southeast Colorado is steeped in the lore of the Old West. Native Americans, early Spanish explorers, mountain men and traders on the Santa Fe Trail all passed through here. The old trails gave way to the new rails and the towns of Las Animas, La Junta, Rocky Ford, Swink, Manzanola, Ordway, Fowler and Cheraw sprang up in this rich agricultural and ranching area. But always it has been the people of the Arkansas Valley who have made the difference - and made this area what it is today.
We at the Arkansas Valley Community Center are proud to support the people and communities of the Arkansas Valley. Please visit some of their links for more information about our wonderful treasure that we call the Arkansas Valley. |
